TEAM DARK HORSE TAKES WATKINS GLEN CLASS WIN

WATKINS GLEN, New York — Team Dark Horse Racing’s Brian Gluck took ย a second straight Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) class victory in the Rolex Historic/Classic GT Enduro race here Sunday, July 13.

Gluck, driving a 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 modified to 1971 Trans-Am race series specifications, finished first in Group G2 and 27th overall at the 80-minute event.

The class win came despite severe suspension problems front and rear on the car, which a long mid-race pit stop only partially corrected. Even with the problems, Gluck managed to turn a best lap of 2:36 on the long version of the Watkins Glen circuit. In the afternoon MCI Dash sprint event, a leaking vent hose from the Mustang’s fuel cell allowed raw racing fuel to spray onto the right rear tire four laps into the eight lap race. The car spun, shearing a gear on the distributor and ending the team’s weekend with a tow back to the pits. Before the fuel leak, the repaired suspension had shaved lap times to 2:31 and Gluck was running a strong second in class 3G.

The race weekend brought Formula 1 cars back to the storied Watkins Glen International track — site of the U.S. Grand Prix from 1961 to 1980 — for the first time in 18 years.
